Device update

The Control Center is updated on the release date. The device update becomes available on the same day. You control when devices update, but we recommend doing so promptly to get new features, model improvements, bug fixes, and security updates.

Update process

The device update works like this:

  1. The device downloads the update and operates normally during the download.
  2. The device starts the update procedure; this can take up to ~5 minutes if model updates are included. During this time the device stays online but does not process events, and BMC contacts are not triggered. If the error contact is enabled, it signals an error during the update.
  3. After the update completes, the device returns to normal operation.

A recommended rollout approach is:

  1. Start with test devices to validate app integrations and compatibility.
  2. Update a small production batch during a planned maintenance window and off-peak hours.
  3. Complete the rollout to all devices once stability and functionality are confirmed.

Scheduling updates

You can update devices immediately or schedule them for a specific time, making it easy to run updates during off-peak hours or planned maintenance windows.

Warning

Scheduled updates cannot be postponed to a later date.
